I just got off the phone with Helmut Perzi the Marketing Manager involved with the distribution and production of the film "BULLRIDER". I searched high and low for this hoping to catch it in a theater during some of our travels....no such luck.
He mentioned that the film had a limited theater release in Albuquerque and Denver and a few other markets. Rave reviews from those that were able to catch it. Just seemed that the major studios were able to get them bumped out of the spot light. He did say that about 90% of those that went have since purchased the DVD and poster.
What DVD & Poster?

Hey...guess what? Yep. They are on the way. In about a week we should be stocked and ready to roll. We have gone ahead and added the item to our on-line store. I can't wait to get a glimpse at this film.

Have you watched this film? If so, I'd be interested in hearing what you thought.

It has been several months now since we were contacted by the gang over at Trick My Truck to help them with a project for a Bull Rider. It was kind of hush-hush for a while. However, this morning I got wind that the episode is about to air.
Be sure to jump over to CMT - Trick My Truck and check out the photo's. They sent us the steering wheel - totally awesome...I just didn't have the heart to really mess with it and end up wrecking what must be a $1500 or more custom setup. We had to send it back and included a few things, soooo I'm curious to see if they used them.
Congrats to Wes Adier and Thank you to the gang over at Trick My Truck for thinking of us to help on the project!

Sure seems that it would be a very tough sell for Toyota to break into the rodeo world. However one of PCB - Professional Championship Bull Riders top sponsors stuck out big time.....in a good way for me. I've got to be honest guys..I really liked the new Tacoma...I mean look at it. It is pretty bad axx.
So. Here is a question for ya! If Toyota came up with a new dually that had 40, 50 or 60 MPG and it looked half as good as this....would you buy it?
This weekend I think I'll have a chance to check out their new line at the Farm Show. Curious to see their suspension and how they might hold up to the abuse the typical rodeo jockies would put them through. I'll keep you posted if I get the chance to run it through the outback chasing down some coyote's...

I want to extend a very sincere THANK YOU to Bob Sauber and his team with the PCB Tour, a National Federation of Professional Bull Riders sanctioned event.
It sure was fun running into a ton of friends I hadn't seen in quite a while. They allowed us to be guests this weekend at the event held at Vet's Auditorium in Des Moines. The event really attracted some serious bull riders from across the US...however it sure stuck out the number of absolutely awesome bull riders from right here in the mid-west. It makes it a ton of fun to be a part of watching these guys make there way to the top. The list is rather long of who could suddenly appear on top in either the PRCA or PBR...guys like Davie Dyke, Ryan Clark, Lance Orman, Jimmy Tweed, Ryan Schumacher, Matt Pojonouski, Matt Birkenholtz, Jay Morrow, Ty Clearwater....I haven't even mentioned the half of them. Guess it really boils down to the fact that the guys riding in the NFPB - National Federation of Professional Bull Riders events are going to be the next set of Superstars! I can't wait to go to their finals...I'm sure it will rock!!!
Above is a shot of Cory Montana Davis...he was putting on a great ride and just lost his seat. Took a heck of a shot and walked away. If you ever get the chance to go to a PCB event they had some great bulls. The short-go was awesome! Look for Bryan Weyers - High Risk Bucking Bulls, Cory Check, Kevin Monroe and Troy Meech to have some of the best bucking bull up'n comers around.
Be sure to browse over to Flickr to check out some of the (blurry) pictures that I took. Sure not the quality of Howard Sears...but heck I had fun!

I wanted to pass along a very thought provoking interview with Adriano Morias that I found out on YouTube. Certainly not your everyday hype or PR related conversations for the PBR. It leaves you wanting to know more, that is for sure.
You know, I'm not exactly sure what the right question is. However I know that my relationship with God has played a major roll in changing my life. I see a very open connection with spirituality in the sport of Rodeo and absolutely with Bull Riders. Every event, every practice pen, every ride and almost every meal will not begin without some form of prayer.
How important has your relationship with God been in your life? Is spirituality something that should be more open in traditional work environments?
The day that someone tries to pass a law that says "You can not pray in public before you compete"....is the day the sport of Rodeo does not exist. Just my opinion. What is your's?
I'm starting to understand how easy it could be for this guy to go on to win 6 World Bull Riding Championships.

Jeep & Carrie Steenhoek stopped by the store this afternoon on their way back from from Texas. Spent some time hangin' out at the Stockyards in and around Fort Worth. Sounded like a blast.
We've been trying to catch up with him now for a while to present him with his new chaps that he won for winning the 2006 IRA - Interstate Rodeo Association Finals Average.
Sounds like he's had to take some time off to heal up. Might be needing to get some surgery on his knee and be off at least four weeks. He tried these on and thought..."Oh..maybe my knee's not feeling so bad after all"..."think I could still get into Des Moines PCB deal this weekend"?
Jeep is by far one of the handiest bul riders in our area and has been spankin' em since he was just a wee lad! It's always fun to watch him put on a ride!
Spur' It Up!
Be sure to look for Jeep with his Dad (John) this year as they are back in the Rodeo Production business. Something like 17 events and growing strong. Check them out at Heartland Rodeo Company.

I just had to pass along how much I like my new boots. Not exactly your' everyday conversation...but I have to be honest at how surprised I was with them.
This is my first go round with a pair of Nacona Boots, however think I've been converted. These things are sooo incredibly comfortable and guess what? They are Made in the USA and are actually made out of real leather...imagine that! Huh!
I picked this pair up out at Shelpers in Denver when we attended WESA. I've yet to see the imperfection that they discounted these for....either way...Thanks Sheplers Western Stores and Nacona Boot Company.
Curious.
What is your favorite cowboy boot?

Over the last six years we have had the opportunity to work with some of the best bull riders in the United States and beyond. Each one has certainly had their own unique set of beliefs and established rules that they follow as it relates to how they conquer the beast.
Some guys refuse to wear certain colors, only haul by themselves, only use a certain type glove or use a type of rosin blend.
One common question seems to be what can I do to keep my feet better? I use such n' such type of spurs and rowels, however it seems like I always blow my feet. Now granted, some guys swear they don't use them (their feet) or they don't rely on that cause by the time you loose your feet the game was already over...it's really about where your upper body is and doing than about your feet. But at times they sure can help get you back up there.
I know that the introduction of the Gator Wheel Rowels and the Paddle Wheel Rowels (The Big One's) have helped change a lot of guys riding percentage. Some guys have been scared off and refused to make the change. However, an increasing number seem to be making the change and the results are showing.
So for those who ask me, I first ask what are you using today? What degree offset do you have now? Do you turn your toes out? I first recommend going to either the 10-88 Super Grip Spurs with a Tear Drop Drop Shank and teeth which is the 22 degree offset (guys that turn their toes out well) and start with Gator Rowels (smaller bit less aggressive). And for the guys that don't turn their toes out I usually start them with the 10-95 - 30 degree offset.
I've got to be honest. If your serious about riding bulls and you've had a few under your belt and you can generally tell where your feet are at when you are riding....and you are not using the Paddle Wheel Rowels....it's time to upgrade. At first you will definitely feel it in your groins and calves....but you will absolutely get better control over your feet.
What about getting hung up in the flank or my rope and getting dragged around?
I've heard that more than once and have even seen it happen. Sure it is a risk....they are the biggest rowels on the planet. You definitely don't want to bury these in your knots....but ask around...they work.
A couple years back we went through this same exercise with Nate. We started him out with the 10-88 (22 degree offsets) and a set of 10-29 rowels. We saw instant results and he was a ridin' fool.
As things progressed we eventually upgraded to the 10-95 (30 degree offsets) and a set of Gator rowels. He really liked them, however ended up needing to cut the shanks on the 30 degrees and adjust them a bit more to his liking. Then he moved up to the Paddle Wheel Rowels and all but fell in love with them. Since then I think the only real change he has made was to extend the length of his shanks by adding about a 1/2"...big tall guy...more control.
Some times you have to just keep trying things out till you find what you like best. It's more art than science...to each their own.
Click here to see some pictures of the Paddle and Gators setup in spurs.
Hollar if we can help!
Spur' It Up!
PS: "To each there own"...I just asked Nate what he was going to use tonight for his set up and he said "Not sure"..."think I might actually use a gator on my right foot and a paddle on my left". Soooo....guess it just goes to show....
PSS: See you'all tonight in Des Moines at Vet's for the PCB Tour Stop. We'll be there handing out catalogs and helping riders.
