Several months ago we published a survey on how many people were wearing bullriding helmets. To most they might find the results surprising, however I for one am not.
As of this posting over 53% (Red Balloons below) indicating they are wearing a helmet, while only 37% were not (Green) and the remaining 9.7% (blue) were considering changing to a helmet.

A couple things stand out.
For starters...there are a ton of bull riders spread out across the US. A few from Mexico and even a couple from Canada that joined in. That is extremely exciting to see the overall number.
The younger generation of bull riders do not face the same stigma that previous generations faced. It is no longer just a Tuff guy sport. It truly does provide life changing opportunities ~ some good and some terrible. However with the millions of dollars at stake, more and more cowboys are choosing to wear a bull riding helmet.
Take the survey...
We offer several helmets that can be used in the sport of bull riding. Keep in mind, regardless how much we try to make safety equipment that will totally prevent injuries and death, it simply is not possible to prevent all. Wearing a helmet can not guarantee that you will not get injured or die. However it can reduce the severiety of certain injuries and in some cases prevent a fatality.
1) Ambulance Ride = $5K - $7K
1) Life Flight = $12K - $50K
Surgery - ? - $1MM
I know several guys now facing medical bills exceeding $150,000 and that was with insurance that covered their injuries.
The price of a helmet seems pretty darn cheap. Too many guys decide to start wearing them after they themselves or a close friend is seriously injured. Do yourself, your family and your friends a favor and at least explore if a helmet is right for you. The sooner you start wearing one....the more money you will win and the longer your career just might be.
